Central Mediterranean Business School launches new ’employment-focused’ sixth form – Malta Independent

Central Mediterranean Business School (CMBS) announced on Tuesday the opening of a new private sixth form which will offer innovative “work-focused” courses in partnership with major employers.

CMBS will offer higher education courses in business management, computer science, and accounting and finance leading to undergraduate degrees awarded from October 2024 by the Business School, Coventry University and ACCA.

The sixth form school at The Brewhouse in B’Kara offers employment-focused courses designed to prepare students for successful careers in today’s competitive job market.

CMBS has partnerships with leading employers such as EY. Through these courses, students gain practical experience through job hunting, with a strong focus on employability and real-world work experience.

Working with industry lecturers with academic and practical expertise, this collaboration enables students to receive real-world insights and hands-on training from industry leaders, equipping them with the skills they need to excel in their chosen professions and bridging the gap between academia and the business world.

“We are pioneers in our approach to business education, creating courses that focus not just on qualifications but on the skills, experience and knowledge that employers really value and are looking for,” said Christina Galea Borg, head of the school.

A holistic approach to sixth form education

The pre-tertiary curriculum, which is fully approved and accredited by the Malta Authority for Continuing and Higher Education, includes PRISM, an industry-leading neuroscience tool designed to help students identify their own behavioural and organisational strengths.

Work-based learning courses allow students to participate in hands-on training, mentorship, and career-focused activities that prepare them for a successful career in their chosen field. Academic and professional mentors work together to provide students with a comprehensive support system.

On completion, students will be awarded a globally recognised Advanced Diploma in their chosen field of study, accredited as 120 ECTS and recognised as MQF/EQF Level 4. Students who complete this programme will have the necessary foundation to progress to a bachelor’s degree at Coventry University or CMBS in partnership with ACCA, or at another European institution of their choice.

“At CMBS we place an emphasis on industry-specific learning and provide students with a variety of work experience opportunities and career activities throughout their higher and post-secondary education,” said chief executive officer Morgan Parnis.

“Our goal is to equip students with the practical skills and industry readiness they need to succeed in their chosen professions and make informed decisions about their future career paths.”
